Course 1 (ages 9-13)

In Course 1, we begin your child’s chess journey by introducing the fundamentals of chess which is needed to approach learning the game strategically. The key focus is to have the students master the way the pieces move on the board and their simple interactions. Students will be able to set up and play a game of chess from beginning to end after completing this course.

Course Prerequisites: Before taking Course 1, students should understand how to move all the pieces on the board. Not ready for Course 1? Take our Chess for Beginners (ages 9-13) instead.

Course Duration: The online instruction will consist of ten one-hour instructional classes and five PLAYLAND! Classes. PLAYLAND! is a space for girls to compete, apply what they learn, and foster a supportive community with shared interests. During PLAYLAND! sessions, participants can play against different opponents, participating in up to three full games every Sunday from 4:45 pm to 6:00 pm EST.

Course Fee: The total cost for 15 classes is $305 (including HST).
