Angelyn Binan

Chess Educator
Philippines
English and Fillipino

Angelyn Binan started playing chess when she was just in the first grade. She went on to play her first tournament when she was in the third grade, winning herself a trophy. This victory solidified her love for chess and her desire to seek out and play against stronger players than herself.

And that’s exactly what she did.

Angelyn went on to compete and win at a number of tournaments, including a silver medal at the National Chess Championship, when she was in high school. She became a chess varsity athlete, a team captain and, eventually, became the Head Coach at the university that she enrolled in.

During her first year of coaching, her team made it to the National Chess Championship at the Collegiate level for private schools in the Philippines and after competing against 16 teams, they won second place in the competition.

Angelyn now plays for the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines and remains Head Coach for the University, remotely teaching eager students about chess. She loves teaching because it gives her the opportunity to share her love for chess and show her students how chess can affect and operate in their daily lives. Mainly, she hopes to touch the lives of others by teaching them about the game that she loves the most.
